[ROTM] I knew I was in trouble when...
I knew I was in trouble when I saw that bloody ship.
Naturally, everyone should think they’re in trouble when they see a ghost ship, but I was really in trouble, considering I had just sold the one thing that could save my life. Well, save my life the easiest. Nevertheless, no matter how easy or not easy it was, I had unintentionally sold myself up the river. Which really does not put one in the best mood. And on top of that knowing that the only people who can help you are the two people you’d rather never see again.
That’s when I knew I was really stuck.
Not that there was anything I could do about it. If I wanted to stay alive, I had to go to the Winchesters. And knowing the way things had panned out between us thus far, I knew it probably wasn’t going to end in my favor. The brothers didn’t exactly consider me a friend, and really, I couldn’t blame them, but what else was I to do? Just lay down and die? Not really my style.
Thankfully for me, though—Sam is more clever than he looks. Figuring out the spirit’s other weakness and actually giving him what he wanted all along? A brilliant bit of quick thinking out of that one. And when it was over, I settled affairs, just like I always do. Ten grand for the work they’d done. I’m sure they’ll put it to some kind of use—even if it’s not necessarily a good one.
Dean may have called me damaged for not just saying thank you and moving on, but really, if I had? The next time they happened to need my help on something—hypothetically speaking—they would have the power to guilt me into it. “C’mon, Bela, you owe us, we saved your life.” Now, I don’t. I paid them for a job well done, therefore I’m in the clear.
As I said—I don’t like being in anyone’s debt.
