[ROTM] "We Shall Be Free" lyrics

And when money talks for the very last time and nobody walks a step behind.
When there's only one race and that's mankind, then we shall be free.

Idealists only make me roll my eyes. It was an involuntary reflex, really. People have been telling me that money isn’t everything, happiness is more important than money, money can’t buy you love—really, all of that dribble makes me want to puke. Because fact of the matter is, money makes the world go round, and those who don’t have it, are due to be left behind. It was a fact of life, really, had been since the day commerce was born. The people who had money lived the comfortable life, while those who didn’t were—not as comfortable. Money talks. Money plays. Money gets you where you want to go, and while some people would refuse to ever see things my way—well, the real world was just going to have to come and bite them in the ass eventually.

Even the most ‘selfless’ individuals—and yes, don’t forget to the quotes, because there’s no one that truly is—can’t resist the lure of money. Even the not-so-noble Winchesters couldn’t turn down ten grand for a job well done. And while Dean’s glib damaged comment was probably meant to make himself look better, they were going to be putting that money to good use—probably not a wise use, but a good use.

Fact of the matter is, money makes the world go round for a reason. Without money, there would be no commerce. We would be forced to go back to exchanging goods like food or products for services, and while that’s all well and good, in the end, people would never get above the farming class. They would never better their lives, or themselves, they would never have anything to aspire too. The comforts of the affluent society wouldn’t exist and while some people would say that they’re better off that way—really now. Class and breeding are not things that should be thrown out the window because of morals and ideals. Most of the men I do business with on a regular basis are clear evidence of that.

So regardless of all the preaching against greed and wealth, nothing is going to change anytime soon. It’s the way of the world you live in, ladies and gentlemen. Better get used to it.
