[JMM] It will only take a minute...

“It will only take a minute, he says,” Bela growled, wrapping her coat around herself more tightly as she stood in the doorway of the abandoned warehouse with Sam. It was so cold the wind felt like it was biting at her skin, and they’d been there for hours at this point. She was trying to keep as warm as possible, but that was turning into a feat in and of itself. “Just need to run back to the motel room, he says.” She paused for a minute, before turning to face Sam again. “Has he answered the bloody phone yet?”

“No,” Sam replied, half-annoyed, half amused. He slid his hands back into his coat and leaned back against the wall, giving her more of a look as he did. “Relax—he’ll be back.”

Bela huffed slightly, starting to lean in the doorway before a strong gust of wind caught her full-on, and she spun around trying to get some shelter from the wind. It wasn’t fast enough to keep from the cold eating it’s way right through her clothes and straight down to the bone. While the Winchesters were always prepared, and wore heavy clothes usually, Bela was dressed in her usual business style, and that wasn’t necessarily made to weather the temperature when it was about zero.

“I should have brought my own bloody car.”

“No, you should have dressed better. Not Dean’s fault you don’t know how to handle the weather.”

“I thought we’d only be out here an hour, I didn’t think we’d be spending the night in the elements.” The comment only caused her to curl in on herself more, feeling her skin start to go numb from the wind. She sighed, sinking down on the wall more so that she was sitting on the ground. When she spoke again, she was sounding a bit less angry, and a bit more worried. “He’s not going to be much longer, is he?”

“Probably not.” Sam shifted to sit down next to her and sighed slightly. “He’ll shouldn’t be that much longer.”

“Hey, Bela. Wake up.”

“’m not sleeping,” she murmured, before Sam shoved her shoulder violently, and she jerked awake, giving him a look. “I wasn’t.”

“Fastest way to die from hypothermia is to fall asleep,” Sam replied, huddling into his jacket more. “Not that I’d actually lament that much, given the fact that oh, you shot me, but I actually have a soul, so I’m afraid I can’t let you just die.”

Bela rolled her eyes, rubbing her arms roughly as she tried to warm herself up. “Has he called at all?”

“Yeah,” Sam sighed. “Said he got tied up with something, and he’ll be here as soon as he can.”

“Fantastic,” she sighed, before pulling her knees into her chest. She was violently shivering at this point, trying to keep herself as warm as possible, and she could feel Sam watching her as she did. She knew she looked pathetic. She hated looking pathetic, but she couldn’t help it this time around. There was a pause, before Sam sighed heavily, and started inching closer to her. “What’re you doing?” she frowned, surprised by the gesture.

“I said I wasn’t going to let you freeze, didn’t I?” Sam moved his hand, unzipping his coat, before pulling it open and sliding it around her back, tucking her under his arm. Her body instinctively curled into the warmth around her, trying to soak up as much of Sam’s body heat as she possibly could.

There was a long pause, before she looked over at him. “If Dean asks—”

“This never happened,” Sam said with a nod.

“Good.”

They managed to hear Dean pulling up before he actually entered the warehouse and they automatically jumped a few feet a part, just to maintain the idea that it never happened. Bela was brushing the hair out of her face as she got to her feet, while Sam was zipping up his coat. When Dean rounded the corner, he glanced between the two of them and raised an eyebrow.

“Did I miss something?”

“Yes –apparently you missed the day in school when they taught you how to tell time.” Bela gave him a long glare, before starting to head towards the car. “Can we go now?”

Dean glanced back at his brother, and Sam just gave him a look right back. “C’mon Dean, it’s freezing. Let’s go.”

Dean rolled his eyes before heading back to the car. “Alright, let’s go.”

“Thank you,” she sighed, before turning and heading back out to the car. Dean just looked over at his brother again, and she could hear Sam rolling his eyes from where she was standing.

“Trust me—you don’t want to know.”
