[JP] Oscar Wilde quote
[Set canon-ish. Ruby is
bloodinmyear and used with permission from her mun who made a request for future Bela/Ruby fic with the prompt “truth.” … It kinda turned into past instead of future. Oops?]
“Illusion is the first of all pleasures.”
“I’m almost curious as to what your game is.”
The blond was watching her with that cocky, half-amused look that came with being a demon. She was really starting to get sick of those looks. She’d been getting them frequently over the past ten years from demons all over the world, and she hated them just as much as they ever did. They never changed at all, and it only seemed to remind her that her time was going to be up soon. It wasn’t going to be long before she was one of them, and most of the time she just wanted to shoot the look right off their faces and remind them that she wasn’t there yet.
And she didn’t want to die. But that wasn’t the point.
Ruby started to move closer to, circling her curiously. “Almost? I thought you liked having all the answers, Bel-la.” She said her name with a bit of an odd emphasis, almost as though she was leaning towards bella or beautiful, rather than just saying her name. Bela watched her move, her eyes following her carefully as she spoke.
“Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss,” Bela replied carefully. “It can get you into less trouble.”
“I don’t think the Winchesters are going to be quite so forgiving,” Ruby said, coming to a stop in front of her, reaching a hand up so that she was brushing a piece of hair out of the other woman’s face. “They don’t trust me. Not yet. So seeing you with me—not exactly gonna make you their new best friend.”
Bela rolled her eyes, tossing her head almost as though to knock the hand away. “I never was a friend. I screw them over once in a while. That does not a friendship make.”
“Right, right. You shot Sam. Forgot about that.”
Ruby stepped away from her, moving to start and look around the woman’s apartment. “You know, this really is a great place. It’s gonna be such a shame that it’s gonna be all empty come May.” She smirked before turning around, plopping down on the couch and kicking her feet up on the coffee table. “Can I have it? I’ll even be nice and take care of little Miss Kitty for you.” Bela’s eyes narrowed, crossing her arms even tighter in front of her chest, and Ruby rolled her eyes. “Don’t be so testy. It’s just stuff. Not like you can take it with you—definitely not where you’re going anyway.”
“What do you want?” Bela finally snapped, straightening and glaring back at the demon in front of her. “I don’t have time for this.”
“Alright, alright—fine. Lilith has a job for you.” Bela looked back at her questioningly, not sure what she was getting at. “She needs you to use your infamously sticky fingers to take something nice and shiny from the Winchester boys and get away before they realize you’re doing it.” Ruby pushed herself up and made her way closer, hands on her hips. “And if you do there’s a nice big pay-off in it for you.”
“And what’s that, exactly?”
“Your life, pretty girl,” Ruby smirked. “You get your life.”
Bela hesitated for a moment. This was too good to be true. She knew a con when she saw one, and this definitely had to be. But if there was something that Lilith wanted so badly that she was willing to tease her with her life. “What does she want?”
“Does that mean you’re in?”
“It means I want to know what she wants.”
“Nuh-uh. That’s not how the game’s played,” Ruby shook her head. “You tell me if you’re in, and then I tell you what you have to go get.” Bela hesitated again, still uncertain, and Ruby rolled her eyes. “What else have you got to lose, Bela? It’s not like you’ve got much to live for now.”
She was quiet for a moment, before closing her eyes and nodding. “Fine. I’m in.”
“Perfect,” Ruby grinned. “The Winchesters have this special little gun, called the Colt. It kills a whole lot of things. Lilith wants it.”
Bela raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you just help the Winchesters fix that gun?”
“Maybe. But that’s my business not yours.” She moved closer and placed a slip of paper in the Bela’s hand. “When you get it, give it to a demon named Crowley. Address is there. And don’t get caught or the deal is off.” She gave the girl a bright smile, before walking away. “Nice doing business with you.”
“Wait.” Bela’s hand snatched out and she wrapped her fingers around Ruby’s wrist tightly, keeping her from moving. “I’m not Dean Winchester.”
Ruby glared as she turned around, trying to shake Bela’s hand off her wrist but Bela only tightened her fingers. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I’m not a moron. I know how demon deals work. You expect me to just take your word for it?”
“So, what? You want it on paper?” Ruby scoffed. “That’s not the way we work.”
“No. You know what I mean.”
The blond tried staring her down, keeping her eyes focused on the woman in front of her. “Alright, fine. Pucker up.”
Bela took a breath then closed her eyes, leaning in just enough to fulfill her end of the deal. But even after their lips met it seemed like there was a little more to it, a little bit of an extra charge and she didn’t pull back right away, just continued the kiss a little bit longer, even going so far as to let Ruby deepen it, before realizing what she was doing, and pushing her away with a slow sigh.
“Alright. I’ll get your gun.”
“Good.” Ruby pulled away completely, heading towards the door. “Catch ya on the flipside, Bela.”
