[More crack. Again, not binding on anyone ever. Follows THIS. Also, this is set in Bones Season 5, but pre-season finale.]
“I hope you don’t mind that I brought a friend,” Bela sighed as Jack led the way into the Jeffersonian. “He’s quite the academic and when I told him I was going to the Jeffersonian, he practically begged me to bring him along.”
The story was complete fiction, but Sam was the only one who would be able to pull it off. He was the only one who would have even considered that kind of reading material. Bela dressed him and rehearsed the cover story with him, and now Sam was wandering off to look at the different bone sets laid out, keeping his hands clasped behind his back as he looked them over.
“No, not at all.” Jack replied, giving her a smile as they moved through the different areas. “He seems like he can keep himself pretty easily entertained as it is.”
She nodded a bit, before slipping her arms into his, leaning into him a bit. “So? Show me around. I want to see everything.”
“Well, who am I to refuse that,” he grinned before taking her and starting to lead her around. She pretended to be interested in the various equipment, and in the meantime kept her eyes on the security. They eventually wound their way up to the main platform, where a brunette woman was leaning over a set of remains. Sam snuck up behind her, heading up onto the platform with her, and peering over their shoulders. “And this is Doctor Temperance Brennan.”
“Yes?” Brennan looked up and blinked at the three of them. “Doctor Hodgins, who are these people?”
“This is an old friend of mine, Abby Winters, and her friend—”
“Sam,” Sam snuck in extending his hand to her, and withdrawing it when she held up her gloved hands. “I’m a big fan of your work.”
“Yes, you and the millions of other people have read my books.”
“Actually, I was referring to your paper on defleshing techniques and the study of bone trauma. They were both extremely informative.”
And that was why she brought Sam, not Dean.
Doctor Brennan looked up, surprised, before nodding. “Yes. They should be.”
Sam gave Bela a bit of a smirk, before leaning over to look at the bones in front of her. “So what are you working on here … ”
Bela slipped her arm into Jack’s again before pulling him away. “So? What else is there?” He turned to her, giving her a considering look for a moment, before tilting his head to the side.
“One more thing I want to show you.” She gave him a curious look back before following his lead back to one of the larger rooms, separate from the rest of the lab. In the room was a tall brunette woman working over a computer. “Angie, there’s someone I want you to meet.”
“Oh?” She pushed herself up and turned around to face her.
“Angela this is Abby Winters. She’s an old friend of mine from when I was growing up.” He smirked. “Abby, this is Angela. My wife.”
“Your wife?” She sighed. “Well this is an interesting development.”
